Memory
The brain is very organized, with different functions taking place in different regions. However, memory is a function that takes place in many different parts of the brain. Because vinpocetine is well absorbed by several different cerebral (brain) tissues, it is able to enhance blood flow to many of the different areas that play a role in memory. Several studies have demonstrated that vinpocetine can improve a wide range of symptoms of brain impairment among older adults experiencing decreased cognitive function. The improvements occurred in areas including behaviour, mood, orientation, ability to perform daily routine tasks-and memory. This strongly suggests that some forms of age-related cognitive impairment are related to decreased blood flow to the brain, and can be improved by increasing blood flow. Vinpocetine has also been tested on healthy volunteers with normal brain function. In one study, treatment with vinpocetine for just two days significantly improved short-term memory.
