Horsetail is used as a diuretic and in the treatment of kidney stones. It has a naturally high content of silica, which strengthens hair, nails, bone and teeth, promotes healthy skin, and increases calcium absorption. It is also used in the treatment of cystitis, intestinal disorders, rheumatism, and gout. It promotes healing of broken bones and connective tissue. It is used to promote urination, and aids in general detoxification. It is an astringent for diarrhea and dysentery, enterorrhagia and hemorrhoidal hemorrhage. Externally, it is used as a poultice for hemorrhoids and anal fistula. It is also used as an eyewash for eye inflammation and conjunctivitis.
