Immune Support
Throughout the centuries, garlic has been used to fight infection. Since the 1940s, many studies have suggested that garlic may provide the immune system with powerful support against viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Recent studies have compared the effect of garlic on such bacteria as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella enteriditis, Citrobacter species, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and mycobacteria, with the effect of such commonly used antibiotics as penicillin, streptomycin, choramphenicol, erythromycin, and tetracycline. In addition to supporting long-held beliefs regarding garlic’s antibiotic effects, these studies suggested that garlic may be effective against some bacteria that have become resistant to the antibiotics typically used against them. Garlic also appears to be an effective antifungal, particularly in fighting Candida albicans, the fungus that causes yeast infections. In laboratory studies, garlic was more effective than seven antifungal drugs commonly used against yeast infections, including nystatin. Heart Health Garlic also appears to provide support against the development of atherosclerosis by promoting healthy cholesterol levels. Numerous double-blind, placebo-controlled studies have shown that, in participants with cholesterol levels higher than normal, garlic supplements standardized for allin content can lower total serum cholesterol by 10 to 12 percent, and LDL and triglycerides by up to 15 percent, and may support an increase of up to 10 percent in HDL (good cholesterol) levels. The key factor is the hand-in-glove decrease in LDL and increase in HDL. Garlic may also help to reduce blood clotting, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes in individuals whose arteries have been narrowed by atherosclerosis. Other Important Points about SISU Garlic SISU Garlic is enteric coated, which serves three functions: • Stomach acids rapidly destroy the enzyme allinase, preventing the conversion of alliin to its active form, allicin. Enteric coating ensures that the tablet does not dissolve until it reaches the more alkaline environment of the intestines, allowing the body to experience the full effect of the allicin content. • This also protects the stomach against the possible irritating effects of a high-potency garlic formulation. • In addition it prevents unpleasant aftertaste and breath odour caused by the digestion of garlic in the stomach. *Do not chew. Chewing defeats the purposes of the enteric coating. *High-potency garlic may also provide support against such common viral infections as the colds, the flu, and oral and genital herpes.
