Ester-C
Vitamin C in its commonest form-ascorbic acid-can cause gassiness, bloating, and diarrhea. Ester-C is a specially processed form of calcium ascorbate, which is less likely to cause gastric discomfort. In a study, 50 volunteers received 1000 mg per day of either Ester-C® or ascorbic acid for three days, and then switched for three days. Thirty percent fewer gastric symptoms occurred when participants took Ester-C. Ascorbic acid passes out of the body quickly in urine, so little of it is absorbed. One study showed that 24 hours after supplementation with Ester-C, the white blood cells of subjects who had taken Ester-C had absorbed more Vitamin C than those of subjects who had taken regular ascorbic acid. Another study showed that calcium ascorbate is better absorbed than another form of Vitamin C called calcium acetate. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is best known for strengthening the immune system. Studies have shown that 5 grams (5000 mg) of Vitamin C can double the rate of key activities of white blood cells, the soldiers of the immune system. Vitamin C also fights heart disease by assisting with cholesterol metabolism. Most people consume Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, but ascorbic acid passes out of the body quickly, so little of it is absorbed. It can also cause gassiness, bloating, and diarrhea. Ester-C is made from calcium ascorbate formulated through a patented process so that it neutralizes intestinal acids and can therefore be absorbed without discomfort. It also contains a form of calcium, which enhances absorption. Citrus Biofavonoids Bioflavonoids exist in all plants. They occur in high concentrations in citrus plants, alongside Vitamin C. Vitamin C cannot be absorbed in the absence of bioflavonoids, and bioflavonoids have many of the same properties as vitamin C. In Ester-C®, the two work together synergistically. Other Important Points about SISU Ester C 600 • Ester-C 600 is available in capsules for those who enjoy the convenience, while Ester-C Powder is more suitable for those who wish to avoid excipients or have a more tightly control dosage. • Vitamin C can cause gassiness, bloating, or diarrhea. Although this is much less likely with Ester-C than with regular ascorbic acid, an individual with a sensitive gastrointestinal (GI) system may still experience discomfort. If you are taking more than one dose of Ester-C 600 or Powder daily, take them at different times of the day to minimize the effect on your GI system. If intestinal discomfort persists, try a lower dose Ester-C product, such as Chewable Ester-C. Begin with a single tablet and increase dosage, at different times of day, to bowel tolerance level.
