Chromium
Chromium is a trace mineral that is essential to normal sugar and fat metabolism. Studies indicate that chromium increases insulin activity, reducing the amount of insulin required to control blood sugar and related processes. Studies also suggest that chromium can be depleted by refined carbohydrates, exercise, pregnancy, infection, physical trauma, age, or psychological stress. The resulting deficiency can lead to insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hypoglycemia, or Type II diabetes. Studies also have shown that chromium supplementation can avert or alleviate these conditions. Chromium supplements can also decrease levels of triglycerides and “bad cholesterol,” while increasing “good cholesterol” levels.
Vanadium
Discovered almost two centuries ago, research into the usefulness of vanadium in treating diabetes was sidelined by the discovery of insulin, but the problem of insulin resistance and the search for alternatives has led to renewed interest since the mid-1970s. Vanadium mimics insulin and can replace it in the body for many hours. It also prevents loss of zinc, which helps to sustain the insulin reaction during illness. Long-term use of vanadium has decreased triglycerides and cholesterol in research subjects, as well as reducing insulin resistance and hypertension. But its key role in weight loss lies in its demonstrated ability to reduce blood sugar, which reduces the amount of glycogen stored as body fat.
Suggested Use: 1-3 capsules daily.
